Performance Art: Theory & History ( Wednesdays 6:00PM-8:00PM)
This course offers an engaging introduction to the history and theory of performance art, tracing its development from early experimental movements to contemporary practices. Students will explore influential artists, landmark performances, and key ideas that have shaped performance art across different periods and cultures.
Through lectures, visual presentations, videos, readings, and group discussions, we will examine how artists have used the body, time, space, movement, identity, and audience as part of their artistic practice. The course will also consider the relationship between performance art and other disciplines, including painting, theater, installation, video, and conceptual art.
Designed for both beginners and practicing artists, this course provides a strong foundation for understanding, discussing, and appreciating performance art within the broader context of modern and contemporary art.
